So many things to see and experience, truly awesome.
So many things to see and experience, truly awesome. Lots of places to eat to experience the local cuisine. lots of places are within walking distance and the taxis are very cheep to get to the places out of walking distance. On a word of caution, wear a face mask, the air pollution is chronic. One disappointing thing that I found quite shocking was that the supposedly "sacred river" that flows through the city was treated as an open sewer. The smell and sight of raw effluent coming from the waters was horrific.

People in Nepal are very nice and honest.
People in Nepal are very nice and honest. Taxis are costly and sometimes overcharged.
But once agreed they would not trouble you much. Delays from your side are absorbed with any extra demands for money.
Nice wheather. Food variety may be limited if you are vegetarian like me. Its a fun place all together. Do visit patan Darbar chandragiri Hills and Pashupatinath temple.

Kathmandu is the heart of Nepal, it is chaotic.
Kathmandu is the heart of Nepal, it is chaotic. As in other big capitals, people from all Nepal come here to find better opportunities, so you can find all Nepal culture here.
Just loved it! Plus my friends are from Kathmandu too and I could feel myself very welcomed and immersed to the real culture.

Hadn't been there for 8 years.
Hadn't been there for 8 years. Lots of growth and traffic is a real problem. But much cleaner now and the magic of Thamel, Patan and Boudhanath was still there. So much more to see, but we only had 2 1/2 days. Definitely still worth it. Careful what you eat. Shopping for incredible crafts and Tibetan antiques is amazing.

Kathmandu is loud and messy, full of temples.
Kathmandu is loud and messy, full of temples. Use in-drive to travel around, with 50 cents or so you'll be wherever you want in the city behind a funny motorbiker trying to get your number. The people are so genuenly kind beacuse u are their "pauna" guest and they will treat you as one all the time.

Stayed in Thamel district popular with tourists.
Stayed in Thamel district popular with tourists. Extremely busy area, but felt very safe to walk around. Cars and scooters drive up and down streets means you walk in gutter most of the time. Plenty of sightseeing with numerous temples and places of worship around each corner. Looks like some of the buildings are being held up by across. Not sure if this is due to age, or recent earthquake activity. Only had 2 days. Wish I'd stayed longer.
it was tucked back in a quieter alley which is quite the commodity in Kathmandu. We were able to easily walk throughout the Thamel and there were so many restaurant options close by. the provided breakfast is worth getting as it was hearty with lots of options. it was clean and the staff was helpful. we had a group member get sick and the other two of us were able to easily get another room for the night. they also had a laundry service that was very reasonable. hotel Jampa was a great value and I’d definitely stay there again.
This is a great place to stay in Kathmandu. The hotel is newly-opened after having been closed for several years. The style is traditional but in no way outdated. The staff are absolutely lovely and welcoming of all requests; I have never been taken care of as nicely as I was here. The best part about this hotel is the garden, which is a place of complete tranquility even though it is in notoriously busy Thamel. Increbile value for money for my stay. Thank you to Khagendra and his staff-members for their lovely attitude.
The staff were so incredibly kind and friendly. Everyone from the desk staff to the restaurant staff were very helpful and eager to do whatever they could to assist us. The location is fantastic--it is close enough to walk into Thamel, but just outside the noisiest parts. The hotel is set just far back enough from the street that it is surprisingly quiet. For Kathmandu, anyway. The outdoor seating at the restaurants is incredibly pleasant.
It was one of my best stay experience abroad. The hotel is in the middle of the main attraction of Kathmandu, Thamel. Surrounded by thousands of shops, cool restaurants lounges.
Super clean, neat, always on time staff, specially the management Thakur Dhital, Baburam ji, Sandesh and other lovely people always happy to help us out for anything we needed.
Such a lovely host. Highly recommended! The view from the roof is so cool too. 😎😇🍻
Quieter location in Thamel close to ‘Garden of Dreams’, Restaurants , ATM’s, shopping. Walking distance to Durbar Square. Complimentary airport transfer fantastic. Staff super friendly and helpful. We stayed here 3 times on our Nepalese/Bhutan adventure, each time the hotel very kindly looked after some luggage for us which we really appreciated . A really good quality 3 star hotel, highly recommend and would stay here again.
on arrival to kathmandu there was a pick up from airport for guests that booked through booking.com(thanks for booking.com)
location was great although alittle bit away from center but surroundings were full of good restaurants and staff were very helpful to call taxi
very clean and finally the best points for this hotel will be for staff! very kind, gentle and helpful
I wish them all luck
Shankar Hotel is very well situated. The best part of the property is its lush green gardens and the pool set among it. Its very peaceful to sit and soak the sun specially during winters. Breakfast is simple but delicious. Its not flashy like some 5 star properties but still good enough. The spread was basic but very sumptuous. Live egg station is par excellence.
Best location in Thamel, away from street noise but close to everything. Staff are very nice and helpful. The breakfast is so good, lots of choices and they made me fresh egg :) view from balcony is lovely, can watch the sunset over Kathmandu. Very happy with Divine Hotel, I left a different hotel to come back because they are the best. Stay here!
They have great service, very clean and neat rooms. The staff is friendly and polite. They also have full access to book taxis for any city tours.
This hotel is very close (3 min walk) to the Thamel street in Kathmandu City. Thamel street is best known for its great shopping spots.
They also have great continental breakfast at the hotel.
The hotel feels like a second home. Comfortable rooms, very comfy bed, and very good breakfast.
Staff is amazing, friendly and will do their best to accomodate your requests.
Plus, the espresso at the loby coffee shop is the best I had in Kathmandu.
Would definitely book again.
The Thamel Grand Hotel was in a great location. The rooms looked just as they were advertised. I really feel like a got a great deal. However, the best part was the staff. They were incredibly kind, attentive, and helpful. They made me feel welcomed 100 percent!
This place is the best hotel in Kathmandu and we stayed in 3 various hotels around Thamel. The staff are super friendly, the onsite restaurant serves the best food, and the room is newly renovated. It's less than 5 minutes walk to the shopping street.
The staff is very welcoming, the sunset is amazing through the 5th floor, the place is secure, in the best place in Thamel area, close to nightlife and shopping, room very clean and spacious, services at the hotel excellent.
This was the third time I have stayed at the Kumari after staying at at least five other hotels and guesthouses in Thamel, Kathmandu. I will always return here because the staff and Boutique Hotel are simply the best.
Perfect hotel in Kathmandu if you are planning a vacation in Nepal. Hotel management were really helpful in planning and organizing the trekking. Great location for a hotel in Thamel area.
Really nice room and friendly staff. At the heart of Thamel. I stayed at other hotels in Kathmandu and this was by fair the best, given the price. Recommended!
The open space with garden and trees attracted me the most. 360 degree view of Kathmandu valley from the rooftop was another fascinating factor of the hotel.
